How We Work

We have been a group of about 50 member families who come together monthly to purchase food in bulk to capture wholesale prices. Our group is 100% volunteer run and registered as an Oregon non-profit. We are working to secure our IRS 501c7 designation, or a social club, for tax exempt status.

Families have ranged in size from 1 or 2 people to 6 or more. The average is probably a two-parent household with two children. We’ve kept our growth small and controlled, which means our demographics largely map that of the Arbor Lodge neighborhood in Portland, Oregon.

We have worked with 8-10 vendors monthly in our initiation, though that has pared back to about 5 vendors monthly, now. We host a monthly Azure drop, two produce splits per month, and a large dry goods order. Herbs, butter, blueberries, summer produce/fruit, and even brooms are common things we order.

Every month, we have one “mega split” where produce and dry goods are split together. This also serves as a pick up point for members and a way to keep in touch. A local church allows us use of their basement for a small fee.
